Manchester United will begin their 2026/27 Premier League campaign with an away trip to newly-promoted Hull City on Saturday lunchtime.

Michael Carrick's side travel to the MKM Stadium for a 12:30pm kick-off on August 22, with United looking to make a strong start to the new season.

The fixture comes after United completed their pre-season preparations with a 4-2 defeat against AC Milan, and Carrick now has several fitness decisions to make before selecting his first Premier League starting XI of the campaign.

Manchester United Injury Latest

United's preparations have been complicated by a number of injury concerns.

Benjamin Sesko has been recovering from a shin problem which disrupted his pre-season involvement, leaving the striker's availability for the opening weekend under scrutiny.

Matthijs de Ligt has also been dealing with an injury issue ahead of the new campaign, while Mason Mount has been recovering from a foot problem.

United have also had concerns surrounding Manuel Ugarte, while Lisandro Martinez and Kobbie Mainoo have had disrupted preparations following their involvement at the World Cup.

There has at least been encouragement surrounding Martinez. The Argentine returned to United's pre-season camp after suffering a thigh problem during the World Cup final and was able to feature from the bench against AC Milan.

Mainoo and Marcus Rashford also returned to action against Milan, giving Carrick further options ahead of the trip to Hull.

Carrick Faces Opening-Day Selection Decisions

The injury situation could have a significant influence on Carrick's starting XI, particularly if Sesko is not considered ready to start.

Bryan Mbeumo provides another option through the middle, while Matheus Cunha, Amad and captain Bruno Fernandes give United several possibilities across the attacking positions.

New midfield additions Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos could also be in contention after both featured during pre-season.

United will nevertheless be expected to approach the opening fixture targeting all three points against a Hull side returning to the Premier League after securing promotion last season.

United Pulse View

An opening-day trip to a newly-promoted side has the potential to be awkward, particularly with United carrying several fitness concerns into the new campaign.

Carrick's biggest task over the remaining days will be determining which players are genuinely ready to start rather than taking unnecessary risks so early in the season.

United still have enough quality available to travel to Hull expecting a victory, but getting players such as Sesko and De Ligt back to full fitness could become increasingly important as the opening weeks progress.

Further updates on United's injured players are expected before Carrick finalises his squad for Saturday's Premier League opener.
